Attigue alla galleria sono 2 sale affrescate recentemente restaurate, i cui lavori, ultimati a settembre 2014, sono stati documentati da me in una campagna fotografica del prima e dopo restauro. Ecco qui alcune foto:
In Cavallino, in the province of Lecce, the extreme southern part of the region of Puglia, can still be found one of the most representative architecture of Salento’s region; this is the “Castello ducale Castromediano-Limburg“. It was built in the second half of fifteenth century, with some refurbishments and structural additions made later on sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
The Castle took its name from the family it belonged to, the Castromediano-Limburg, which had its forefather in Killiano of Limburg; in the atrium of the Castle, is visible a statue dedicated to him, made with the typical stone coming from the mines around Lecce.
The Castle is made up of several spaces decorated with Baroque style elements; the most important spaces are the Weapons Hall, the Sitting Room, the small chapel with two altars (the altar of Madonna Addolorata and of Madonna di Leuca), and the gallery, which shows a vault-ceiling fully decorated with the zodiac signs.
Adjacent to the gallery, there are two more fresco decorated rooms, recently undergone through some restoration works. These works, concluded in September 2014, have been documented by me within a photographic campaign including pictures before and after the operations. Here below you can find some of the images:
